Your onboarding sequence is a sales asset, not a formality

The first 72 hours after a client pays decide whether they renew. Most coaches treat that window as paperwork.

Ask a coach what happens after someone pays and you'll usually hear a version of this: they get an email with a link, then a calendar invite, then silence until the first session. Meanwhile the client is sitting with the biggest question a buyer ever has — did I make the right call?

The onboarding sequence is where that question gets answered. Not with a welcome video full of gratitude, but with proof that you're organized. A clear first step. A short intake form that respects their time. A named outcome for session one. When the client sees the machinery working, they relax. Relaxed clients do the homework, show up prepared, and renew.

Here's the practical version. Map your first 72 hours as four touchpoints: payment confirmation with the next action spelled out, intake form (ten questions maximum), portal access with a two-minute orientation, and a note setting expectations for the first call. Each one should take the client under five minutes to act on.

Test it with one new client before you automate anything. Watch where they hesitate, then rewrite that step. The sequence you build once will run for every client after, and it will quietly do more for retention than another discovery-call script.
