The One Metric Course Creators Should Track in 2025
Forget email open rates. There’s a simpler number that tells you if your course is actually working.
We’re drowning in vanity metrics: email open rates, video views, social likes. But there’s one number that matters more than all of them combined: the module completion rate.
I define it as the percentage of students who finish at least 80% of your course content. If that number is below 50%, your course has a delivery problem, not a content problem. Fix the structure — add deadlines, peer accountability, or a completion bonus.
In my own course, tracking this metric led me to add a weekly live Q&A. Completion jumped from 45% to 72%. That single change created more impact than any new module I could have added.
