Stop Overcomplicating Client Onboarding

Most coaches lose clients in the first week because of messy onboarding. Here's a simple three-step system to fix it.

I've talked to hundreds of coaches, and the same pattern keeps showing up: they spend hours crafting the perfect welcome email, then drop the ball on the actual steps. Onboarding isn't about a fancy PDF. It's about clarity. Your client should know exactly what happens next, who does what, and when.

Start by mapping the first 48 hours. What does the client need to do? What do you need from them? Write it down. Then automate the repetitive parts. A simple form, a calendar link, and a shared doc can replace five back-and-forth emails.

The third step is the one most people skip: check in. Not to sell, but to confirm they're set up. A two-minute Loom video walking through your portal can prevent a week of confusion. That personal touch scales because you record it once.

If you're still using a messy email thread to onboard, you're leaving money on the table. Fix the process, and you'll see retention climb.
