Stop Losing Clients in the Onboarding Gap
The 48 hours between 'I'm in' and your first session is where most coaches bleed trust. Here's how to close it.
Most coaches think the sale is the finish line. It's not. The real drop-off happens between payment and the first session. That gap is where doubt creeps in, where buyers wonder if they made the right call. You don't need a fancy funnel to fix it. You need a sequence.
Start with a welcome email that does three things: confirms the purchase, sets expectations for what happens next, and gives one small action to take right now. That last part matters. A client who fills out a short intake form feels momentum. A client who waits for you to schedule something feels forgotten.
Next, automate the logistics. Calendar link, intake form, and a resource folder should all live behind one URL. Not four. If a client has to hunt through their inbox for a Zoom link, you've already introduced friction. Tools like Notion, Zapier, and a simple scheduling link can handle this without a developer.
Finally, send a pre-session note 24 hours before you meet. It doesn't need to be long. A single question—'What would make this first session a win for you?'—does more for retention than any welcome packet. It signals you're paying attention.
The coaches who keep clients aren't the ones with the best branding. They're the ones who make the path from purchase to progress feel inevitable.
